Maiwald appoints Dr Christian Meyer and Dr Nils Braun as partners

Maiwald, one of Germany’s leading intellectual property law firms, has appointed Dr Christian Meyer and Dr Nils Braun as partners in the firm, their respective appointments to take effect during the fourth quarter of 2022 with Dr Meyer continuing as attorney-at-law in Maiwald’s legal department, while Dr Braun will add his weight to the patent attorney side of the practice.

Christian Meyer advises national and international clients on the legal aspects of technical intellectual property rights, with a particular focus on national and cross-border patent litigation. A further core competence is advising on competition law issues (Unfair Competition Act and Medical Products Advertising Act). He also advises on negotiating and drafting of IP contracts and on employee invention law matters.

Christian Meyer studied law with focus on the intellectual property field at the University of Düsseldorf, where he also received his doctorate on a competition law related topic. During his period of legal internship, he already spent stints at Maiwald offices in Düsseldorf and Munich. He has worked as a lawyer in intellectual property law since 2012, first in Düsseldorf and since 2013 in Munich. Christian has been working as a specialist in intellectual property law since 2015. He joined Maiwald in 2018. He regularly gives talks on IP topics and is a lecturer for patent law at the University of Marburg. In 2021 and 2022, he was named a “Rising Star” by Managing Intellectual Property.

“We are very pleased to be able to strengthen our legal department even further with Christian as a partner. Through his tireless efforts on behalf of our clients, his valuable expertise and many years of experience as a litigator, he makes a major contribution to the success of our firm in this area. We wish Christian every success in his new position and look forward to a continuation of the excellent teamwork we have enjoyed up to the present,” said Dr Marco Stief, partner and head of the legal department at Maiwald.

Dr Nils Braun provides a broad range of advice to clients on national and international aspects of intellectual property protection. He assists clients in procuring, maintaining, defending and contesting patents and utility models. Nils brings with him special expertise in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, material sciences, semiconductor technology and pharmaceuticals.

Dr Nils Braun studied chemistry at the University of Constance, the University of Sussex and the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg, receiving his PhD in the field of theoretical chemistry from the University of Heidelberg. He went on to study law for patent attorneys at the University of Hagen. After working for several years as a patent attorney trainee at a renowned IP law firm, Nils was admitted as a German patent attorney in 2008, joining Maiwald as a patent attorney in the same year. He was admitted as a European Patent Attorney in 2009. Since 2018, he has been working as Counsel at the Munich office of Maiwald.

“Nils’ appointment as partner at Maiwald is a further welcome addition at partner level in the important areas of chemistry and pharmaceuticals. His many years of experience and his profound specialist knowledge in these fields are an added valuable addition to Maiwald’s patent attorney practice. We wish Nils all the best and much success in his new position,” said Maiwald partner Dr Martin Huenges.
