Berthold advises and represents clients in the field of chemistry, including polymer and organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, materials sciences as well as chemical process technology. A large part of his work as a patent attorney involves conducting opposition proceedings on behalf of clients as well as preparing opinions on enforceability, validity and relevance of industrial property rights.

Berthold has been working in the field of intellectual property protection since 1999. After completing his training as a patent attorney, he became co-founder of the patent attorney firm of BLCH, later incorporated into the then Maiwald Patentanwalts GmbH. Berthold has many years of experience is handling opposition proceedings before the EPA, in particular before the Appeal Boards of the EPA.
