The Munich office of Maiwald has appointed its patent attorney Dr Christian Pioch as a partner as of the beginning of 2020. Dr Pioch was admitted to practice as a German and European Patent Attorney in 2016, having started his career with Maiwald in 2013. He has made an international name for himself as a proven expert for developing corporate strategies in the field of intellectual property.
Multinational strengths
Christian Pioch has extensive experience in multinational patent litigation, especially when it comes to complex litigation processes and procedures involving software and laboratory systems worldwide. His proven strengths in these multinational areas have their roots in his earlier work as patent consultant. Before joining Maiwald he had worked for globally operating concerns in the aviation and semiconductor industries. His in-depth knowledge of US patent law is a further mark of his professional stature.
Wide range of expertise
Christian Pioch advises and supports companies in obtaining patents and utility models. His consultancy services also extend to opposition, nullity and appeal proceedings in the fields of software, sensor technology, data processing, semiconductor and medical and laboratory technologies. Add to this his broad and in‑depth knowledge ranging from artificial intelligence and neural networks to machine learning and Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, data security and autonomous driving. He advises and represents companies from a wide range of sectors, including electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, communications and information technology, mobility and energy, displays and lighting, measurement and process engineering as well as medical technology and imaging.
Qualifications
Christian Pioch studied physics at the Technical University of Munich. He obtained his doctoral degree there in collaboration with the Research Center for Nuclear Physics and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency. His doctoral research was conducted in the fields of detector and software development, nuclear physics, radiology and radiometry. His professional career initially led him as a research associate to the Helmholtz Zentrum (German Research Center for Environmental Health) in Munich. He later started as a trainee patent attorney with Maiwald where he handled work on behalf of major clients from the aviation and semiconductor industries. Since 2016, Dr Pioch has steadily expanded his consulting practice, initially as an associate with Maiwald.
