Marco Stief appointed as Head of Legal at Maiwald

Munich-based lawyer Marco Stief has been appointed as equity partner and member of management at Maiwald. The law firm, which specializes in patent law and other areas of IP law, now comprises 17 equity partners in Munich and Düsseldorf.

“The appointment of Marco Stief as equity partner and Head of Legal is a clear commitment to the further expansion of our legal practice,” said Maiwald Partner Martin Huenges “We want to complement and expand our strong market position as patent attorneys’ office through a growing legal practice. Marco Stief will particularly dedicate himself to this task.” Ten attorneys are already working for Maiwald, focusing on patent litigation and contract advice and design, but also on pharmaceutical, employee invention, trademark and competition law, as well as on distribution antitrust law.

Marco Stief has extensive experience in international and national patent infringement litigation and disputes arising from technology agreements. In addition, he regularly advises companies on complex national and international IP transactions and a wide range of technology contracts, in particular licensing, distribution and development contracts. He also regularly advises on matters pertaining to distribution antitrust law, competition law and employee invention law.

Prior to joining Maiwald, Marco Stief was an attorney-at-law at Clifford Chance and at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He also has many years of experience in the corporate world as Director Legal of Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA.

Marco Stief teaches industrial property law at the University of Dresden and pharmaceutical and contractual law at the University of Marburg. He is the author of numerous expert papers and the editor and co-author of “Handbuch des Patentrechts” [Handbook of Patent Law], as well as the editor and co-author of “Vertragshandbuch Pharma und Life Sciences” [Contract Handbook Pharma and Life Sciences] and the European manual “Supplementary Protection Certificates”.
