M. Sc. Industrial Engineering Field Mechanical Engineering
Alexander joined Maiwald in 2023 with a unique triple qualification as Austrian, German, and European Patent Attorney. At Maiwald, Alexander provides a one-stop shop for our Austrian clients and our German clients with subsidiaries or IP in Austria by harmonizing their national IP strategies based on the individual national requirements and best practices.
Due to the strong economic ties between Austria and Germany, IP disputes are often cross-border between these countries. Alexander’s ability to represent our clients in both countries and his expertise in both jurisdictions, in particular his experience with litigation in Germany as the European country having the most litigation cases, regularly enable him to resolve cross-border disputes without uncertainties regarding foreign jurisdictions.
One of Alexanders practice areas is full-service consulting of SMEs, universities, and start-ups. He covers the full spectrum of intellectual property protection in the areas of patents (including employee invention law), designs and trademarks, from filing to enforcement of IP rights. He has extensive experience in conducting patent prosecution, opposition, and infringement proceedings for large companies in various industries.
One of his main technical areas of expertise are computer-implemented inventions, in particular with respect to AI, 4IR and software applications. His technical expertise is rooted in the best practices he has cultivated through countless patent applications filed and prosecuted with the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), the Austrian Patent Office (ÖPA) and the European Patent Office (EPO), as well as through collaborations with experienced practitioners in the legal and commercial fields.
